Neil
What do you think of it? I've always had something of a soft spot for it, but after seeing Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young last night, I realized something very important:
Neil Young is my hero, and as far as I'm concerned, he ought to be everyone's hero.
If I used the name, it'd be in his honour.
Combos I've thought of (thoughts?):
Neil Jerome
Neil Christian
Neil Robert Riley
Neil Bartholomew
Joachim Neil
Lazarus Neil
Leopold Neil
Array
...And then he said, "You're independent, aren't you?"
"Yes," said Laura.
A revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having.

Yay.
I love the name Neil. It's simple, yet kinda spunky and adorable. Incidentally, it's the first name of my teenage idol (who was a bit of a hero to me), the author Neil Gaiman. I also associate it with Neil the depressed hippie from the Young Ones :)
Out of your combos, I like Neil Christian and Leopold Neil the best.

I fail--I had to look Neil Peart up. And I fail doubly, because I'm not a Rush fan, lol.
As far as musician Neils go, my other favourite is Neil Sedaka, because anyone who went out with Carole King has to be a great guy. ;) *loves Carole King with every fiber of her being*
Hmm...It's really unfortunate that they were a couple, because Neil and Carole would be a fine sibset. Ah, well--I've still got Neil and Emmylou to go with. ;DDD
Array (still can't quite decide if she prefers Neil as a first or middle name)

You have a way of making me take a hard look at names I usually don't think about, you know that?
Now that I think about it, I really like that name Neil. I'd put it on my list here and now, if I thought it sounded good with my surname.
It's masculine but not macho, and seems uncommon yet it's as modest as Nick.
Neil Robert Riley, absolutely.

Like I said to Eilis, I have trouble divorcing Robert and Riley; they simply belong together. The other option, of course, is Neil Robert LaFollette, lol. I simply can't get Robert by itself, I've discovered. :D
Unfortunately, I don't do long, heh. Cornelius Bartholomew feels like an overwhelming too-much! for me.
And since I've preferred Cornelia so thoroughly as of late, I figure that I'll hold off on Cornelius for the moment. ;)
Thanks for the thoughts, Bear. You're always a helpful bean. :)

I really like Neil. Its very cute. I prefer it as a first name its too short for a middle name in my opinion. I love Neil Bartholomew.

"Neil, Neil, orange peel!"
Sorry! If you've ever watched The Young Ones, you might get that. :-) There's a character Neil on that show who has turned into *the* guy of that name for me.
Still, I like it a lot. It's kind of cool, definitely less popular, and pretty versatile. Neil Robert Riley is my favorite from your list. Though I'm not a huge fan of three-name names, I like this one. It sounds like the name of an author, I think. Neil Christian is good aesthetically but you know me and Christianity. :-/

It’s all the same. What the hell good to you
is your native land after you’re dead? Whose
native land is it after you’re dead?

Never even heard of The Young Ones, actually. And that means that you'll have to tell me a bit more about that Neil--I hate not getting pop culture references, lol.
Robert Riley is my grandfather's name, and I have such a hard time divorcing either name from the other--they just sound so good together to me, lol. As for Neil Christian...ah, yes, but can it sneak past on the grounds that it's a family name from way back when? ;) If nothing else, I can promise that I plan to support my children's spiritual choices, whatever they are, heh.
Thank you for your thoughts.

A bit of what Wikipedia has to say of Neil: "...a clinically depressed pacifist, insomniac and vegetarian working towards a peace studies degree. He is victimised by the other housemates and is made to do most of the housework, shopping and cooking. He is extremely pessimistic and believes everyone and everything hates him..."
The Young Ones is an old-ish British sitcom that I am in love with. If you can recall Rik Mayall from Drop Dead Fred, he's in it (his character is initially the reason why I declined to be a Sociology major). I've watched each episode probably twenty times over the years, no kidding. It's one of the only shows that I can quote freely, and of course nobody understand when I do. :-/ I hate to rely so much on Wikipedia but it's writeup is good. Neil is the one with the long hair--the hippie, of course.

YES! I'm not the only one who'd name a kid after a musician! (I'm considering Simon after Paul Simon.)
Personally, I like Neil Robert or Neil Riley (but not together). Lazarus Neil is nice too but I'm not sure how that kid would get through school.

Oh, Simon has been on my list before, for that exact reason. Take a look at my favourites and you'll see several musical references, hehe.
Thanks for your thoughts. :)
