Andie as a girl's nickname
Replies
I love it. And not for Andrea, that's boring. I like Andromeda nn Andy, and I love Andromache, it's really cool, but I don't know if anyone else agrees. All names with -and- sounds work, the obvious Andrea etc., and maybe Miranda, Amanda, Alexandra, but they sound kind of weird. Not really natural nns.
My fave is Andromache nn Andy.

I personally don't like it.

Well my nickname is Andie, short for Andrea. I've never met anyone else that uses it as short for anything else but as mentioned earlier I think it would be cute as a nickname for Andromeda or any other And- names. If the name didn't start that way I probably wouldn't use it, too contrived.

I currently think of Anne Hathaway's character in The Devil Wears Prada (which was fabulous, by the way). And she was cute enough that I'm definitely more receptive to it than I was before.
I really like Andromeda nn Andie (for someone else, though--I'd never use it, I don't think :). In general, I prefer it as a nickname for names where the sound isn't buried away too far--an Alexandria nn Andie would feel really contrived to me.

...And then he said, "You're independent, aren't you?"
"Yes," said Laura.
