Esmeralda
What do you think of the name Esmeralda? Is it beautiful, or too frilly and tacky? And do you think it's usable, or is it too Notre Dame?I personally love it as a name (partly because the Hunchback of Notre Dame is one of my favourite books) because I think it's beautiful and I love the way it sounds, but I'm kinda undecided about whether I would like it on a real person...

I love Esmeralda. It's so musical and the nn Esme is cute. My oldest dd wants to name her dd Esmeralda one day.Different without being weird.

I really like this name as well. I thinks it's beautiful. It does seem slightly frilly, but not in a bad way. I don't think it's tacky at all. It's an all around great name, imo.

I have an aunt named Esmeralda. I never used to like it but, it's grown on me a little. Esme would be an adorable as a nn.

I like it. I went to high school with an Esmeralda and she was one of the sweetest people I've ever met. sometimes she got called "Es" or "Esme" but mostly we just used her full name.

I feel exactly as you do! I love Hunchback and I think it's a beautiful name...I'm just fearful of saddling a RL girl with all those expectations. I mean, I know she's not going to be like Esmeralda in Hunchback, but still...I have a hard time picturing Esmeralda on a flesh-and-blood person. :o) HOWEVER, being the nn fiend that I am, ^_^ I've already considered using Esme as a nick. :oD

I think it's unusable as a FN, but I think it'd be fine as a MN. Personally, I don't really like it. It seems a little too dramatic and frilly to me. I have trouble picturing a young Esmeralda, but there are many nn possibilities. However, because they could go by Mera, Ally, or Alda (+ others) it all depends of whether or not you've got the guts to use it. No doubt it would be very refreshing.

DittoI love gem stone meanings. It's ranked 213 on the US popularity charts, and peaked at 133 in '98. Seems like others can appreciate it too.

I actually love the name, but I would never use it. Partly because of Notre Dame. Kristen~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I kind of like Esmeralda. I would never use it but it is pretty. It is kind of frilly. But it is not popural.--Sarah Katherine Un nome è qualcosa che dura per sempre
