Polly?
My friend is having a baby also. She wants to name her baby girl Polly. We've been friends since elementary days so I don't mind telling her that this name is awful. She really likes it. We decided to turn to you all. What's your opinion on Polly for a girl?

I don't mind Polly as a nn, but I don't really like it as a given name. I'd suggest Paula, Pauline, Paulette, Apollinariya or Apolline with Polly as a nn.edited for spelling

I don't think it's awful (at least it's properly spelled and not bordering on idiocy, like a lot of new baby names are these days...), even though it's not my style. It's OK, but it's still too much of a nickname to me. I prefer it as a nn for Apollonia.

Polly is cute. My great grandmother was Polly (short for Mary). I love seeing names revived, so this is right up my alley. I was just watching a TV show where a character was named Polly. Or at least that's what I thought until the wedding scene. "Do you, Leopoldina, take this man . . . " Leopoldina, nn Polly = my kind of fun! Other possible formal names: Paulina / Pauline / Paula, Apollonia, Polaris / Polaire.

I had a great-aunt Pauline, nn Polly (actually, I think she really spelt it Paulie, but it sounds almost the same). We also called her Aunt Paul. ;o)Check Out Blinkyou.com for thousands of custom glitters and layouts

My grandmother is Polly! I think it's adorable for an old woman or a baby. It needs a sull name for the inbetween years.
Pauline

I love Polly, especially as a nickname (Apollonia is my favourite, but Mary, Pauline, etc., too). I think it's very sweet and old-fashioned without a current revival, like Betsy and Mamie and Dinah.Array

I like it. I know a little girl who is about 5-7 named Polly, very sweet. I think if she wants to use Polly she should go for it!

There are two things that come to mind when I see this name. First is the song "Polly" by Nirvana, about a girl being raped and tortured and then there is "Polly want a cracker,". I think its rather boring and plain.

I like it, actually. It needs a longer name, but it's a very cute nickname! Pair it with a longer name, and call her Polly, so she has something to fall back on later.
