WDYTO Sloan?
I met a really sweet girl named Sloan the other day and she's now a close friend. I was thinking of naming my kid that, but I'm not sure. It would be on a girl, and in her honor. What do you think?I LOVE YOU ABOVE ALL THINGS:***Natalie Marie-You'll always be in my heart***

I don't mind it but I don't think it has a very pleasing sound.

It's too surname-y and masculine for a girl, imo, but that's just my personal opinion. :b It was slightly popular in the 1980s, I think. Sloan(e) was Mia Sara's character's name in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and I've always seen it as a name for a somewhat stuck-up but pretty rich girl. LOL.

I love it. I perfer the Sloane spelling though. Sloan just seems incomplete to me, lol.~Erin Lee, wife of Matthew James, mama to Sarah Patrice (11/29/04) and Dos (due sometime in late February or early March)~

I actually really like this name. It's very strong, but I think sounds sweet at the same time. I prefer it with an 'e' on the end though, Sloane.Love is the lord of the house within him and rules all the concerns of his soul- Plato

I don't like it, it's far to masculine-sounding for a girl IMO, plus it reminds me of Sloan Rangers (http://www.sloaneys.co.uk/)

Its far too masculine for my taste and to my ears has an unattractive sound
If you really like it I would suggest using it as a middle name

Reminds me of "slaine"Which isn't exactly a good thing. If I disregard that, I still don't like Sloane / Sloan. It sounds masculine and ugly for a girl to me.

I knew a boy named Sloan, but he spelled it Sloane. I like spelling better.

I think of the Sloan family.......Of Daria. Kay and Angiers, and their children, Tom and Elsie. I also think of the Sloanes of the Anne books and of the character in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.I find it unflattering and unattractive on a girl. On a boy, he could almost get away with it, but on a girl? There's not a single feminine nickname to made of it, and that makes me uncomfortable in the extreme. There's not really any nickname to be made from it, so if she's stuck as Sloan. If you'd like to honour your friend, I'd suggest Sloan as a middle name. You could still call her by it on occasion--I call my sister almost exclusively by her middle name, though no one else does--and if she didn't feel like a Sloan (I sure wouldn't), then she wouldn't have to be Sloan to everyone. Plus, it would still honour your friend--I believe in honouring, and so that's important. :)ArrayETA: See also: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=sloane

It has an unpleasant sound to me. Slug, slew, sloth, slain not pleasant sounds. It is especially bad for a girl. Not even remotely feminine.

I love this name on a girl. It's not a common name, so you don't hear it everywhere you go. Plus it's strong and pretty.

I really dislike this name . . .The popularity of this one is something I really can't understand. To me, it has an awful sound - slooooane - and of course there's the vulgar Sloane family in the Anne of Green Gables books. So for me, it's got absolutely nothing going for it.

I totally agree.

I think you have to spell it with an "e"Sloane... seems to finish it off to me. :) But otherwise I think it is cute, although a bit masculine for a girl. I was considering it for a middle name for a girl.
