Cleopatra?
1. What do you think of this name? (Is it beautiful or ugly, too long or too weird etc.?)2. Is it usable today? How would you react if you met a little girl called Cleopatra? Do you think it will age well?3. What names do you think match with Cleopatra to make combos?
Looking forward to your opinions.

1. Pretty, but too wierd. It's long and has a lot of baggage with the name. I think it sounds too stuffy on a person today, and I loathe the nickname Cleo.2. Not for me. I'd think her parents were weird, to tell the truth. And I want to name a child Delphine! Celopatra has a ton of history attached to it, and I wouldn't like it on a child. I can't see it on any person, any age, so I don't know how it would age! 3. No ideas, I could never use it. The only time I'd consider it would be as a middle name.Sorry if that post sounded harsh, but I read a book in which Cleopatra was portrayed as a bad person, and I couldn't bear to name someone after her.
Julia Keelan"I don't mean to be rude-" he began in a tone that threatened rudeness in every syllable.
"-yet, sadly, accidental rudeness occurs alarmingly often."

No it didn't sound harsh, just well thought-out criticism, which was what I was after, thanks!
Just curious, what was the name of the book in which Cleopatra was portrayed as a bad person?

1. It's a beautiful name. However...2. To me, it's completely unusable. As pretty as it is and as awesome a namesake Queen Cleopatra would be, I think it would be extremely tacky and prentious to call your child Cleopatra. It's just one of those "huge" names that I can't imagine on anyone else than on the Egyptian queen. I could tolerate it as a MN, but definitely not as a FN.3. Definitely simple, common names.

I agreeIt does sound awfully pretentious and I can't really imagine it on anyone besides the Egyptian Queen. "A world where Sting asked if the Russians loved their children too and we knew the answer was yes" - Excerpt from Looking for Alibrandi.

I don't think it would be tacky, however I do agree that it might be somewhat pretentious, and that it is definitely a 'huge' name.
Yes, I think I would only use it as a middle name, with a more simple first name.
Thanks for responding.

Agreed, as wellIt's very pretty, you've got to give it credit for that, but I'd never use it, even as a mn.
I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.

1. I think it's a bit of a Madonna name; there's one Cleopatra, and everyone else sounds a bit silly with the name. You need some serious style to pull this one off. I do, however, love Cleo, Clea (CLEE-ah), Cleone (CLEE-oh-nee), and Cleona (clee-OH-nah).Cleopatra's nice--I won't fault that--but I do wonder if it's a bit much as a first name. It offers Cleo, Pattie/Patti/Patty, and Pat as "grown up" nickname options, which does make it more useable, IMO. Perhaps as a middle name? You could still call her by it--she could totally be, like, J. Cleopatra Stills, but if she wasn't comfortable with Cleo, she could go by her first name.2. The reaction would depend where you live, I suspect. If you're surrounded by Jacobs and Emilys, I think that little Cleopatra could have some difficulties with her name. If she's growing up with other kids who have more unusual names, it might work out better for her.3. Cleopatra Scarlett
Cleopatra Janine
Cleopatra Saffron
Cleopatra Tamsin
Cleopatra Charlotte
Cleopatra Ruth
Cleopatra Olive
Cleopatra Quinn
Cleopatra Florence
Cleopatra Simone
Ivy Cleopatra
Jane Cleopatra
Eleri Cleopatra

It probably is a 'one person name' even though there was more than one queen with the name. However I do like Cleo, Clea, Cleone and Cleona, thanks for suggesting them!
Actually, I would probably only have the 'guts' to use it as a middle name - I like Jane Cleopatra & Simone Cleopatra. I also like Cleopatra Simone & Cleopatra Ruth, thanks!

The name is not really my style, and it's too much, I think, but as long as she has a nickname it's fine. And she will have to have a nickname and use it all the time. If I met a little girl named Cleopatra I'd be surprised first, and then I'd think it's cool (for someone else's kid only, and as long as it fits her). As a nickname, I'd call her Cleo, but if she doesn't like it then Pat or Petra.I don't know about middle names. Where I live people have no middle names as often as not, and I think they're kind of unnecessary. Nobody knows anyone else's middle name.
