I have a niece named Jillian who goes by Jilly. It's a shame because Jillian is a lovely name - not overused but not odd. Jill is an OK nn, but Jilly is just too cutesy.

Jilly is a cute nickname for a little girl named Jillian or Jill but I don’t like it as a given name.

Jillian is a great name. Is your niece very young? Maybe she will grow out of it.

I knew a 30-something Jilly, and more than one 40-something Chrissy. Sometimes it's hard to grow out of these childish nicknames.
