Thoughts on name Kirk for boys?
What kind of person does it remind you of? Do you like it?

Replies

I associate the name with Captain Kirk from Star Trek. Not a bad association by any means but I can’t imagine this name on a child today.
I try not to associate names with personality, but I'd imagine a man named Kirk to be extremely handsome, highly intelligent, and probably a sports jock and artist. I personally think the name is wonderful, and I love it!
It sounds better as a name than Spock, but it still sounds rather curt.
I think it has the potential to be quirky and cute. I think of Captain Kirk, of course, and also a character from Coronation Street - those are the main associations in my mind! It feels like a very serious name for a little kid, which is really adorable.Because Kirk is not really retro cool yet, it comes across as a bit of an odd choice - which only makes it look more interesting. Like the name Eugene - it straddles the dorkiness line between avant-garde and unfortunate, you know? It can go either way. So can Kirk. I think these forgotten suburban "next door neighbor" names are going to be coming back in style. We're already seeing a glimmer of it with people picking surprising baby names I've seen recently, like Leon, Curtis, Laurie, Gene and Elaine.I like Kirk more than Dirk, I will say.
I like it but would probably never use it unless honouring.
The only people with the name Kirk I know are my 50 year old uncle, a 10 year old boy, and a 25 year old girl. But I would imagine anyone with the name being over 50
I've always liked it. It has a boy-next-door vibe for me, just the normal person you'd meet on the street
Neutral. Gilmore Girls come to mind, not a bad thing, just casual guy. Maybe a bit boring like Josh, Mark etc.
It reminds me of Captain Kirk from Star Trek and Dr. Kirk Honda from the YouTube channel Psychology in Seattle. The only Kirk I know personally is a bald retiree who lives the winter in Arizona and summer in Montana. He speaks in a stilted way and is an easygoing guy.The style seems mid-century mod to me. It seems sort of wholesome and quaint but not in a saccharine way, more sturdy minimalist.eta: I do associate it with and prefer it to Kurt / Curt, like RoxStar mentioned. I don't think I've actually met a Kurt, though. I also prefer it to Dirk; it's less cheesy.

I don't care for it. It sounds harsh, unwelcoming, and brings to mind someone who wouldn't be pleasant company. Also, please try limiting your posts.
Sorry, I'm new to the website and really excited about posting stuff.

It's kind of retro-1980s cool. Back then, Kirk Cameron was a real heartthrob with preteen and teenage girls. It's not in style right now but it feels more youthful and less aggressive than Curt.
I can see it coming back in style. Maybe even for girls such as Kirkleigh and Kirlynn?
