Name Opinion
Opinions on the name Maddie? Any thoughts?

I think it's very cute as a nickname,as a given name it's still pretty but I feel like it should be the abbreviation of a longer name
Nickname only
I prefer it as a nickname for Madeline or Maddalena, unless the bearer is a pioneer woman. Maddie and Mattie both have a folksy, olden days appeal that I appreciate in the right setting. I agree with Rox and Wordsmith that it's one of those neo-frontier names that have now become synonymous with spoiled pre-teens, all the folksiness is sadly gone.
I once read a book when I was a kid with a vampire character called Maddie, short for Madder. That always stayed with me.

In a way, by itself, it sounds like a really old name mainly because of similarity to Mattie and Maggie. I prefer it to those, maybe; it's a little softer and more contemporary. I also prefer it to Addie; it seems steadier.
The only Maddie I have known personally had the full name Maddalena, and it seemed alright as a NN for that. She was born in the 1990s, and, I think, named after her grandmother. Before I met her, I associated Maddie with Madison, which seems kind of shallow/preppy in a generic way. I also know a Madeline (born in the 1980s); she doesn't use a NN, and I think that suits her.

It's great as a nickname, but I would prefer a longer name on a human.
It's so cutesy and at the same time frumpy, and so generic as a nn. Maddie and Ellie and Sophie and Lexi, all squealing and drinking the same neon-orange energy drink full of little gummi-balls.
Who wants a small, insane female? Madeleine is good, but safer as a mn, precisely to avoid te possibility of Maddie. Madison is past its most popular ranking and will, I expect, become a way of accurately guessing its owner's age.
It's bratty, whiny, annoying, and dated. Next.
Hahaha. Bratty! One of my favorite words along with pinniped.
As for Maddie, I’d opt for Mathilde.

Agree.
Madelyn, Madison, Maddie all need a rest.
Hilariously, my phone autocorrects Maddie to Baddie.
