HelpBA - Fifth child in family
A previous co-worker has just announced the birth of her son - Dempsey Jude. She has 2 teenage children from a previous marriage, her husband also has a daughter from a previous marriage and they have a daughter together. The sibset goes like this:
Kwaleigh (b - 18)
Nyah (g - 16)
Isla (g - 11)
Banksi Rose (g - 2)
Dempsey Jude (b - nb)
Opinions?
Personally, I find it a very interesting overall sibling set. I like the girls’ names, especially Nyah. I was waiting for this BA, knowing it would be an interesting one. Dempsey isn’t exactly to my taste, though it’s not bad (100 times better than Kwaleigh in my opinion). I just wish his name had a different sounding ending to Banksi as the two little ones will probably be mentioned together a lot and “Banksi and Dempsey” sounds slightly matchy to me.

When I see Dempsey, the garbage collection company Dempsy Dumpster and the professional boxer Jack Dempsey come to mind. Sneak a peek into your co-workers' garbage cans and see if you find any empty spray paint cans. Maybe you will uncover the true identity of the street artist Banksy! Banksi may be named after her dad's pseudonym! hmmmmm!
Isla got lucky.
I hate hate hate Banksy. Both the "name" and the "artist." Banksy and Dempsey sound like Acey Duecy or Whoopsie Daisy or Hurdy Gurdy or something equally dumb.
Kwaleigh just screams "Random sounds smushed together in a drunken experiment."

I find it fascinating that they changed the spellings of names that are already very unusual.

Dempsey makes me think of bread. Is there a supermarket bread company called this? It's an interesting choice for a name. In another world, Dempsey might feel quaint and vintage; I'm picturing a little boy with one of those too-big newsboy caps on, like a ragamuffin street urchin from Victorian London or the streets of Old New York. But it is too close to the word "dump" for me.
Well, I'm always saying I wish people who like surname-names would be more adventurous. My wish came true.

Patrick Dempsey maybe? He was on Grey's Anatomy.
Don't know about Grey's Anatomy, never watched it; NelleR says there was a boxer called Dempsey and I think that's who I was thinking of. Thanks for helping!

The only Dempsey I have known was a young lad I taught who had very little impulse control, so that has coloured my impression of it. Objectively, Dempsey Jude flows well and could be much worse.
Kwaleigh is a bit odd, it’s like Kayleigh mixed with a koala?
Nyah and Isla are fine.
Banksi Rose is probably meant to be a reference to Banksy (the artist), but it makes me think of banksia, an Australian wildflower. Banksia Rose would be actually quite adorable.
