Peaches
I saw that Peaches creeped into the top 1000 in the UK last year. Uhhh, what and why? I think it’s cute for a pet but I seriously cannot picture it on a human. Where did this come from? Is it a reference to Mario (but she’s Princess Peach not Peaches).

I don’t care for it on a person. It’s okay on a dog.
Does anyone remember the twin sisters named Peach and Pear in "What a Girl Wants" from the early 2000s? They were British and their mother was obsessed with fruit.
It also reminds me of Gwyneth Paltrow's daughter Apple.
No thank you! Ridiculous
It's awful and very silly. It's decent on a pet, but tacky on a human.
Awonderful friend of mine was not a pretty child and is not a pretty adult, but has always had beautiful skin. Her father nicknamed her Peaches as a baby and until his death (by which time he was a grandfather!) because of the soft glow of her pink cheeks.
Boris Johnson has a daughter named Cassia Peaches. She is an adult now, but maybe that was an influence? And there was Peaches Geldof. The plural is too much for me, but tbh I like some fruit tree names (Apple, Cherry, Lemon), and I know an adult named Kiwi. I could probably get used to it. I like it better than Pumpkin which I think has been mentioned here as an IRL name sighting before.edited to add: it looks like in the US, Peach is being used about as much as Apple or Cherry (so, about one or two dozen times a year). Peaches is even rarer; Lemon is about 3x as popular.

I wouldn't even name a pet Peaches, let alone saddle a kid with such a stupid name. I don't even like it as nickname.
What goes through some peoples minds when they name their kids such weird or stupid names?
It's a very dated cutesy nn in the US, kind of like Honey or Sugar. It's the kind of name a stripper or prostitute would choose for herself circa 1975.
Awful. I can't understand why either. It looks to me some parents don't understand their children will grow up to be an actual adult person in their own right. Peaches for a poodle or maybe as a nickname for at home...
Wasn’t there a character in “You” named Peach or Peaches? Anyway a name that sounds ridiculous over anyone over 5, some people apparently don’t realize that the babies they name aren’t going to be babies for ever.
Peaches is an absolutely wild name for a human being. I think these days a lot of parents like very cutesy names for their daughter, with names like Sunny and Birdie becoming trendy. I think it could be a cute nickname for a baby, but an adult woman called Peaches would have it rough. The peach emoji is also sometimes used to represent lady parts, so Peach could get teased for that too, on top of the fact that her name is just plain ridiculous.
