Maybe ask on the Surnames message board? Sorry I'm late with this suggestion - must have missed your post. As I understand it, Andrew's son became Anderson, Thom(as)'s son became Thomson/Thompson, David's son became Davis, Davies or Davison, William's son became Wilson ... a pretty routine development.
