Rare sighting
Seen today on the little local news site: an adult woman named Ellenique.
Doesn't look or sound convincing to me: what do you think?

I love Ellen but an not a fan of Ellenique.
A mash-up name, I don't care for it at all.

I have no way of knowing if the Ellenique I spotted is Black. Here in South Africa that would be most unusual, and she certainly isn't American.
Don't like it at all
Afrikaans names' main characteristic is contractions, but this name proves it doesn't work with many of them. At first I thought it was African American as well. Looks awkward.
I don’t love it, mainly because I dislike the name Ellen.
Ellenique is an interesting name nonetheless but, it looks like a stereotypical African American name to me.
I can't decide whether I like it or not. It feels too pretentious, but I might be very judgmental today, considering there are other African American names I like.

In the US, this would be uncommon but not unexpected on a black woman, especially one of a particular generation. That ique ending was once very popular with blak people, so there were a lot of Moniques and Dominiques and Uniques and Angeliques, along with made-up names like Shanique, Shantelique and Johnique.
