Schuyler
This name has been on my mind lately. Schuyler is a boy's name to me since I had a neighbor whose son's name was Skyler-spelled this way. Does the name sound girly? And WDYTO of this sib set Schuyler(m) and Lark(f)? Is it too birdy?
Replies
i don't like it at all. i can barely pronounce it.
I like Skyler and I like it on a girl, but it'd be ok for a boy.
I hate both Schuyler and Lark, sorry. I find them really ridiculous as a sibling set.
Schuyler spelled this way is a boyish name to me; it looks like a surname (I guess it's actually a word name?).
I'd definitely spell it that way on a boy but never on a girl; Skylar is a girlier version to me. Skyler is more unisex to me.
Schuyler and Lark aren't too bad together; the sound "sky" and the word "lark" is a pretty farfetched connection, in my opinion.

yes
Schuyler IS a surname (Dutch) and means "one who seeks shelter" Nowadays, it is a word, a verb spelled "schuilen" (Ik (i) schuil, hij (he) schuilt, wij (we) schuilen). schuylen is the old spelling of schuilen, so Schuyler is a person who seeks shelter...

My problem with Schuyler follows what Indy said. It's a surname that's been taken over, kr8tvly mispelled Skyler or Skylar and mispronounced.
It reminds me of Michaela, which has been bastardized by Mikayla, Makaela, etc. Now, I could never see a Michaela - a pretty name - without thinking of (what I consider) the lowbrow trend. Any strength in the original name has been sapped by all the trendy changes. So, even if you use the Schuyler spelling and pronounce it correctly, I think it will be associated with the trendiness.
If that doesn't bother you and you want to use it, I'd say its best on a boy.
Schuyler and Lark sound a bit like members of a soap opera family to me, though.

I like the name Skylar, but I wouldn't spell it as Schuyler. It's nmsaa.
I love the name Schuyler on either gender. But Schuyler and Lark sound too much like the car Skylark when said together quickly.
I actually think Schuyler and Lark are really cute together.
First of all Schuyler means 'one who takes shelter', what's too birdy about that? secondly, it's unisex, because it's a LAST NAME
I still can't believe people are actually using this name, it's a surname, used by people who AREN'T Dutch, and pronounce it like Skyler (which is a totally different name), instead of sgguy-ler...(yes, sch = sgg with a hard g)
*sigh* they're gonna use Jansen next..oh wait, they already have..
Now about Lark, i think that's waaaayyy to masculine to use on a girl, but that's me..I'd use Larken, and on a boy...but it's a good sibset
Ps, This is nothing against you, don't be offended, i just soo don't get it why people like this name...And yes, i'm Dutch..
