Margaret Natalie
Maggie Smith passed away today, at the age of 89.Her full name was Margaret Natalie. I am always surprised to come across Natalie on someone older than 30, it feels like a perpetually young name, and still trendy. But Natalie is actually more timeless than I give it credit for! What do you think of her name? What's your favourite nickname for Margaret?

Natalie doesn’t feel particularly youthful to me, possibly because it’s a Xer name in the Francosphere? Though it is a bit surprising on someone of Smith’s generation.Unusually for a BtNer I don’t like Margaret very much.

During my poking around in my city's archives, I came across Natalie used quite often on French and Slavic people born in the early 1900s. I'm not sure where my association with Natalie being young comes from, to be honest. I don't even know any. It's just a feeling I can't shake!I wonder if Maggie got it because she was born a few days after Christmas.
I like the name Margaret Natalie.
Huh, I had a client today with alzheimer's named Natalie, and I thought the same thing...well more like 45 than 30 but yeah. I thought her daughter's name sounded like the older one.My grandma's best friend was named Margaret. She didn't use a NN. My main associations with Margaret unshortened are her, history books, and nuns. I think it's a nice name.I always liked Madge and Midge.
Peggy and Gretel are kind of cute. Meg seems classic. Maggie / Mags has grown on me in recent years; I remember reading Maggie in a story as a kid and thinking it hideous, but now it's just retro.

As someone who grew up with Harry Potter, this is deeply sad news to hear. 😓💔 Although she played hundred of other roles, and was incredible in each one, she will always be known best as Professor Minerva McGonagall to me.
I feel neutral towards Margaret. It's dated, but isn't terrible by any means. It's pretty much just there; very decent, nonsense. I've never been much fond of Natalie, but I like the combination of Margaret Natalie. It has a very nice, beautiful flow to it.🪄

It's pleasant and I've never seen the combo before. I prefer the flow of Natalie Margaret, though. I love Natalie and do not care much for Margaret. I do not like any of its nicknames at the top of my head. Maggie is kind of cute, I suppose.
I saw that! I was so sad to read it. I really like Maggie and Natalie but I've never been a fan of Margaret. I definitely prefer Marguerite or Margaretta.. one of the other variants. Margaret always made me think of a stale cracker.
I don't like Margaret like Marguerite, May, Maisie, Mariska, Marissa, Miriam
Love Natalie i know a number in there 40s to 60s
A titanic loss!Margaret Natalie is really lovely. I quite like Natalie as a middle name.Madge is probably my favorite nickname. I also love Midge.
I immediately knew this was about Maggie Smith when I read the title. Only this morning I was thinking what a remarkable actress she is. I dislike her full name, but I have always loved the nickname Maggie.
I also perceive Natalie as perpetually youthful! Must be that new-born feeling. Margaret and Natalie have very different vibes: Margaret with all the glamour and danger of medieval Scottish royalty, and Natalie so soft and gentle that it's hardly there.I like Margaret a lot. It's the nicknames that put me off. Maggie is trite, Peggy is usable as a full name nowadays more than as a nn, Megan has destroyed itself in a wave of popularity and spelling and pronunciation errors, and the standard nn here in South Africa is Margie, where the g sounds like a g, not a j. My cousin Margaret never had a nickname at all, I don't know why, but I respect her for it.
