Betty or Bettie...
One of my grandmother's name is Betty and if I ever have a daughter I would love to my name daughter after her. However, I am not sure if I want to keep the spelling Betty for my grandmother which is how her name is spelt, or if I want to just switch up the spelling for a daughter and spell it as Bettie just to kind of give her her own identity?
Betty or Bettie?
Thoughts?

Personally, I would have gone with Betty, but after reading this and thinking about it more, I'm leaning towards Bettie...
However, for simplicity's sake, I would name my daughter Betty so spelling wouldn't be an issue growing up, and since it is the more common spelling, she could avoid having to correct people who would would spell her name with a Y by default.

Betty. The most familiar spelling
I would spell it Betty, because that is probably how most people would spell it. It is sweet that you would want to name your daughter after your grandmother.
What you'd actually be giving her is the priceless opportunity to spend her life explaining, correcting people, explaining again ... Betty-with-a-y isn't your grandmother's spelling: it's the way most people have been spelling it for hundreds of years.
