Ava
Until today I had no idea that the name "Ava" was so popular.
For about 4 or 5 years now I have loved the name Eva and if I ever have a daughter I would probably name her that. I have liked the name since I was a freshman in high school (9 years ago!) and a girl in my Spanish class had that name. But about 4 years ago I started listening the songstress Eva Cassidy and even though Cassidy was her surname, I thought that Cassidy would be a lovely middle name for an Eva.
Nearly everytime I would tell someone about the name, they would have to ask me twice what it was and how it was spelled because they hadn't heard of it. I pronounce it "Eyv-ah."
When I see the name Ava, I think of "Ava Maria." So that's my question. Is it pronounced "Ah-Vah" or "Eyv-Ah?"

ah-vah, but I'm French.
I say AY-va, which I think is how most people say it.

Ava to me is AY-va, like Ava Gardner. I don't like it much - too plain and aloof for me; it goes beyond elegant to the point of coldness...no matter how you pronounce it.
Eva to me is usually EH-va, like in Spanish; I like that name a lot. I like Eva pronounced the other way, EE-va, as well, with nickname Evie.

The proper Danish way of prn Eva is EE-vah
(That's what Eve, of the Bible, is called in Danish. Hate to bring up Christianity since I'm 100% Atheist. But I just felt like sharing a fact.)
As for Ava I prn it as AH-vah
(Don't like it, or Eva for that matter, since it always makes me think of the Bibles and everything concerning it.)
