I struggled for ages to work out why it was rhymes! I hadn't realised some people say NAYdeen. For me it's Nuh-deen.
A famous and distinguished South African novelist, Nadine Gordimer, was awarded the 1991 Nobel Prize for Literature. The only pronunciation I've ever heard for Nadine was hers, and that was NAYdeen.
I too pronounce Nadine as nah-deen, the French prounciation which is similar to the beginning of Nadia and I think the common pronounciation in Europe?
