Daine
WDYT of Daine for a girl?
Replies
A lifetime of people assuming the name is typo, no thanks. Diane is fine but playing Scrabble with the letters doesn't work.
Grew up with a boy called Dane and that worked for him, but then he spelled it right.

That's funny, I almost posted about Dane yesterday (met a man named it).
I think Daine for a girl is pleasant, although the main image it evokes for me is the the Tamara Pierce character Veralidaine "Daine" (not bad but sort of one-dimensional - naturey like Wren or Fern but in a more YA fantasy geek way). Beyond that it's slightly dated/retro seeming maybe, like Diane? An even-keeled, mid century minimalist type vibe. I prefer Dane for a guy because it seems like a relatively down-to-earth yet non-standard alternative to Blaine, Zane, Dana for guys, while there are more D*n names for girls I prefer (also I like Raine as fem at least as much as Daine).

Diane is a pretty name, but I don’t really like Daine.
Don't like it, would have constant spelling and pronunciation issues
I didn’t misread it, but it seems like an alternate spelling of male Dane to me.
It would be misspelled and misread as Diane constantly.
I misread it as Diane.
I like the pronunciation, but it kind of looks like a misspelling of Diane.
