My favorite names right now
I'm just here to gush about what names I really like currently. Feel free to give your thoughts about them.Rio is a name that's been in my top ten for a long time now. I think it makes for a really rad, spunky name. I used to not like it as a guy's name, but more recently I've changed my tune.Vesper is a name I found out about quite recently but it almost immediately shot up my list of favorite names. I've always been a sucker for gender neutral names that have a cool energy about them, and Vesper undoubtedly fits into that category.Fleur has been one of my favorites for a while. I really like its pronunciation, and I find it very pretty. It's sweet and simple.Winifred is definitely a name I've been a sucker for for a long time. I think both nicknames that come out of it, "Winnie" and "Freddie" are both super adorable. I honestly wish I had figured out that October could be a name sooner than I did, because I think it's really cool. I hadn't thought about this particular month name until it was pointed out in a thread on these message boards, but as soon as I saw it, it was instantly a favorite of mine. I love the nickname Toby.Jasper is one I've liked for a while. I've always thought of it as a unisex name, as I think it can be a cool name on anyone regardless of gender. If I ever want to change my name again, I might just change it to Jasper.

Rio - I used to like this more than I do now but I still like it. I like Rio for a boy and River for a girl. Vesper - I love this name, it makes me think of vesper sparrows. Fleur - I think it's awkward in my accent but I like it in theory. In practice if I had to use it in my accent I'd maybe prefer Flora, Floriana, Florian, Florence, maybe Petal, or Hana which is Japanese but easy to say in English. Winifred - I like this with Winnie or Win, not sure about Freddie though. October - Very cool as a middle name, but too wordy as a first name. Jasper - I like this one as unisex leaning male.
Rio reminds me of the bird movie.
Vesper sounds good, but reminds me of prayers and religious ritual
I like Fleur in theory, but can't ever get the pronunciation right. Floor? Flowr? Fler? Flu-er? -shrug-
I knew a girl called Fred, after I'd known her a while I learnt her name was Winifred
I'm going to have to think about October as I've never seen it as a name before
I also love Jasper as a unisex name
Fleur is pronounced like Flur, but with a more flowery sound to it. It's hard to describe but if you hear it pronounced you'll know.
I've never watched the bird movie. I heard it wasn't great and never bothered. The only associations I have with the name Rio is the song by Duran Duran, and Rio de Janeiro.
I love Fleur!
I love Jasper and October! Jasper feels friendly and warm, and October is just super cool- I have a friend with that name so I may be biased. I also like Winifred- it has a witchy vibe because it reminds me of Hocus Pocus. I don’t mind Fleur, Rio or Vesper either, they’re all nice names just not my thing!
I love Winifred & Jasper and I think they would make good sibling names.Rio, Vesper & Fleur would be better as quirky middle names. The only one I'm not crazy about is October. There are better months for inspiration (January, April, May, June, August).
I do prefer Rio as a middle name when it comes to naming an actual person. I'd feel bad saddling my theoretical child with that as a first name.
I like Fleur.
