Marina, Coral, Shelly or Sandy?
Which beachy girl name do you like best out of the four? Marina, Coral, Shelly or Sandy?

Replies

Marina
I'd opt for Coral—I love the color.
Marina, definitely. I prefer Coralie to Coral, which would be confused with Carol on a daily basis. I prefer Shelley to Shelly: rather a lnfn than a shoes-on beach. Sandy is probably OK as a nn for Alexandra (today) or Sandra (many yesterdays away).
Coral is a name that I REALLY liked when I was 9, lol. No strong feelings about it now though.
Marina is fun and spunky, I much prefer it to Maria.
Shelly and Sandy are both kind of boring. They could make cute twin names, albeit a bit tacky. If I'm ranking them best to worst:
Marina > Coral > Sandy > Shelly
Coral and Sandy then Shelly and Marina which I'm not a fan of. Just recently learned of a relative with the middle name Dephine which means Dolphin. Not too sure I like that either but I need a good name meaning personally.
In order of preference 1 Marina - my first thought isn't of a boat dock but of a person. It makes me think of the elegant Princess Marina of Greece who married King George V's son the Duke of Kent. She cut quite a glamorous figure from the thirties until her death in 1968 (I'm a royal buff).2 Coral - it has a soft sound but again my first image is not of the colour or a coral reef but of a person. Actress Coral Browne was the wife of Vincent Price.3 Sandy - a friendly sounding name. I've known a couple of Sandras and a Sandy in my life so I have personal connection to this name.4 Shelly - usually spelled Shelley. I knew a very neurotic kid with this name so it doesn't have a good association for me.
Marina > Coral > Sandy > Shelly
Agreed
The first time I met a girl called Coral was when I was aged 9 in the brownies around 93/94 and I have liked it since then. Marina I also like though not enough to use. Shelly and Sandy I would assume were short for other names. Shelly as a nickname for Michelle and Sandy as a nickname for Sandra or Alexandra. I can accept both as nicknames but really dislike them as full names.
I love Coral. It's fun and zany. Shelley and Sandy are cute but still too dated to hold my interest very long. Marina is pretty in that bland inoffensive way that I find very off putting.
I don't really like any of these. There's nothing really wrong with Marina, but it isn't my style. I like the color coral, but I don't like it as a name (edit: I was thinking of Carol for some reason? I like Coral better, but it sounds a bit like quarrel). Shelly was the name of a pet turtle I had when I was younger, and it feels like it should be short for something. I only like Sandy as a nn for Sandra/Alexandra, but as a nn I have positive associations towards it.
So, probably
Alexandra (nn. Sandy) - 9/10
Marina - 7/10
Coral - 6/10
Shelly - 4/10
Sandy (as a full name) - 6/10
