Elena or Eleanor
Do you prefer Elena or Eleanor?
How do you pronounce Elena or Eleanor?

Replies

I actually quite like both.I really love the name Eleanor, though it's interesting ascendance to the top of popularity charts has been a bit jarring. (I pronounce it EHL-ə-nawr)I think I'd go with Elena, just because it's a bit less used today. (Though I just checked, and my goodness is this one seeing a spike these days!) My preferred pronunciation is ə-LAY-nə.But honestly, you can't go wrong with either.

Definitely Elena! Eh-lay-nah. I also love Eh-leh-nah. Elena is such a beautiful name, and it ages well.Eleanor feels really old to me, or maybe it's just where um from.
I prefer Eleanor because it's earthier than the airy Elena.
Eleanor alwaysElena - el-ay-nuh
Eleanor - el-en-er or el-en-or
I prefer Elena. But if I was naming a child I would go with Eleanora with an a.I pronounce Elena as eh-LAY-na and Eleanor as EL-an-or.
Both are nice but I like Eleanor better.
Eleanor. I say Elena like e-lae-na and I don't really like the 'lain' sound. I also feel like Eleanor has more personality.
I say Elena as El-AY-nuh, and Eleanor as ELL-uh-nuh. I like Elena more.
I like both but somewhat prefer Elena. I say ELL-en-uh and ELL-en-or. I also like el-EH-na for Elena, but I don't like ELL-en-er for Eleanor. I need the "or" sound at the end of Eleanor!ETA: If Elena has the emphasis on the second syllable, I like as EH and not AY. el-AY-na is good too, but as Elaina or Alaina.

I love both. Elena is El-ay-nuh. If I had to choose, I would pick Elena.
1000X Elena ! I would pronounce them:Elena - el-ay-nuh (although oddly, Lena I would pronounce lee-nuh)Eleanor - el-uh-noor
Both are fine names but I prefer Eleanor to Elena (Helena is my preference for this name).Eleanor pronunciation - "EHL-uh-nor".Elena pronunciation - I like "EH-leh-na" which is the Italian pronunciation. "Eh-LEH-na" is the Spanish. They just emphasize either the first syllable or the second.
Elena E Lay na
Elena >>>>>>eh-LAY-nuh and ELL-uh-nor
Elena = eLAYna; Eleanor = ELanor. I vastly prefer Eleanor.
I prefer Elena. Eleanor is old lady.
