Ivy or Eve
Hi,
I am really struggling with these 2 names now.
What are your impression and thoughts on Ivy and Eve? Cutesy? Frilly? Intelligent?
And what are the PROs and CONs for each. Feel free to be honest! Say any thing you can think of. One of my biggest worry for Ivy is the "poison Ivy" and medical IV. I'm not sure how severe is this problem in really life? For Eve, I'm a bit worried about the biblical connection since we are non-religious.
Thanks in advance!!

I like Ivy. The 'oh but IV' thing is overblown, I would question anyone who gets hung up on that in irl.
Eve is fine, it's very plain in a fresh feeling way but it's also very Biblical. The only Eves I've ever known (2 to count) have been nice but quiet girls and from strict religious families. That's my overriding feeling about it.
Eve is very firmly in the camp of 'fine name' but also one I wouldn't use because I am firmly not Judeo-Christian religious and that's the vibe I get from it (no offense to anyone of faith out there). So I'd have the same thoughts as you. It's up to you whether the association would be the big thing about the name or if it isn't - for me it is, but for you maybe with use it won't be the overriding association.
Ivy is pretty and I would have no reservations using it.

I prefer Eve, but I love both.
I like Ivy more. Instead of Eve, maybe Evelyn?
I think both names are lovely, but they are quite different to me. Eve I find so simple, yet really beautiful. If you’re worried about it being too biblical, then maybe Eva, Evelyn, Everly or Evelina might suit you better?
Ivy does have the poison Ivy connection, sure and the IV thing, but I think most people will think of the plant.

Definitely too similar for sisters, but they're both good on their own.
I don't really like Eve "eev" (too short) or Eva "eev-a", but I love Eva "eh-va" or "ay-va", and I really love Ivy. If your name is Ivy, people will probably just think of the plant and maybe some fictional characters, not a medical IV. I don't think poison ivy is a big deal.

I like Eve; preferably as a nn for Evelyn or even Eva. Ivy puts me right off: it is one of the most annoying plants that people have ever decided to grow and then tried to get rid of. I also don't like the way it starts with I, as if the person was always talking about herself. Ivan and Ivor have the same effect on me, so it's not just a girl-name problem.
I like both names very much. Ivy is short and sweet, whimsical, vintage - though not necessarily elegant? - and conveys growth and vitality. Poison ivy doesn't seem a teasing point, IV more so, I think.
Eve is more classic, sophisticated, sleek. It feels more mature and grounded than youthful Ivy. Ivy could be flirtatious in a youthful, girlish way, whereas Eve would be more of a femme fatale. I wouldn't assume parents of an Eve where religious.

I really like Ivy. I think Eve is fine, although kinda boring. As a non religious person I connect "Eve" to "Evening", or "Christmas Eve". I think both of them are kinda cutesy but they work well enough as adult names.
As for "poison ivy" or "hospital IV" I don't think that's a huge problem in real life. If somebody makes that connection it's really on them. I'm a medical student and not even I would think about IV if somebody said their name was Ivy.

Eve is intelligent and urbane, whereas Ivy’s a bit
sprightlier and also trendier.
I prefer Eve.

Ivy
PROS - easy to spell and pronounce
CONS - as mentioned, "poison ivy", hospital IV, Beyonce's daughter Blue Ivy ( I have a feeling she's going to be in show business and her name may be in the headlines in the coming years). Ivy is a vintage name that sounds a bit cutesy to me. I prefer Iris myself.
Eve
PROS - a short, sweet, simple choice. Nothing exciting but it's familiar and solid choice. Also, easy to spell and pronounce. I prefer Eva.
CONS - Wicked Eve of the Bible (eye roll from me. The woman is blamed for everything). The name makes me think about the film "All About Eve" starring Bette Davis. The movie is about an ambitious young fan who maneuvers herself into the aging Broadway actress' life (Bette's character), ultimately threatening her career and her personal relationships.

I’m not sure I’d use Eve as a given name if you’re non-religious. You could use a name that results in the nickname Eve, though. Genevieve, Eva, Evelyn, and Neva are the first to come to mind. Otherwise, Eve would make a good middle name.
I personally like Ivy. I associate it more with the beautiful plants that climb buildings. The medical IVs have a different syllabic emphasis, too, so I don’t think of them when I see Ivy.
