Name meanings
While at the library as a child I realized names had meanings when I picked up a book from a cart. My life changed then.

I feel like I've always known, but that's probably because my mom had things hanging on our walls that had our names and the meaning on them, so as long as I could read it, I guess.
Church.
The Bible talks about it, like Isaax means "he who laughs."

I thought Catholics did not read the Bible.
I thought all Christians read and worshipped the Bible. Don’t they study it at Sunday school?
I found this website.
I think I realised that names are words and words have meanings before I actually knew the meanings of any specific names.
I taught a rather slow, unacademically inclined class once, and to cheer them up I used to tell them little things that even they could fine interesting. One day I told them that names have meanings, and they were fascinated. One girl in particular couldn't sit still! She just had to know the meaning of her name ... surname was Miller, fn was Melody, so you wouldn't think that would be a challenge, but it was.

When i was 8 my mum bought World book encyclopaedia and there was an extensive section with names and there meanings. This was the early 70s and i started my first list of names then

For as long as I can remember, I've known names had meanings. I don't think I truly understood what that really meant for a while (I think I remember thinking that there was a specific 'name language' or that names just got tagged with meanings), but at around 8, I think I figured it out. In the Bible, it occasionally mentions the names of people and what they meant, (for example, Genesis 29:31-30:24, when Rachel and Leah are naming their sons), and I think that's where I first encountered the idea.
I have been interested in names since I was three years old, however...I didn't find out that names had meaning until I was eight! I used to be very overprotective of my brothers (I've eased back some now, don't worry 😬), and someone said, "You know, the name William means 'resolute protector,' so you fit the meaning of your name!" Let me tell you, that opened doors for me, lol.
A book about names! **
