Watching a coastguard programme on tv this morning. There was a man known as Cam Cameron who needed rescued from Rockall. Rockall is an uninhabited Islet in the Atlantic Ocean that was around 240 nautical miles from coastguard helicopter base in Stornaway on the Isle of Skye.
The name Cam is a nickname stemming from his last name but both Cameron and Campbell are used as first names too. Which do you prefer Cameron or Campbell to get the nickname Cam.

I love all of these. Cam on it's own, for Cameron, Campbell and I'll add Camden.

To my surprise, in a distant branch of my family tree, a working-class family on Tyneside named one of their sons Campbell - this in the 1870s. His sister and her husband, also a Geordie, emigrated to South Africa and had five sons, one of whom was also named Campbell. I've got no idea why! If I had to choose, I'd prefer Cameron; a man with the surname Campbell has married into another family branch and I don't enjoy his company at all.

I'm not a big fan of "Cam" names but I guess Cameron is preferable to Campbell. The latter reminds me of the Campbell's soup brand.
For a boy, there is also Camden, the unisex Camille and the Romani Camlo.
