Kathy and Cathy
Which is better and do you think it will be the preferred nn soon as we are overwhelmed by Kates and Katies?

Replies

My mother, Catherine, sometimes goes by Cathy, so I prefer it with a "C" to Kathy. Despite my personal bias, I just prefer the look of "Cathy" over "Kathy".
I prefer Cathy to Kathy for some reason. I don't think they will be preferred by most parents for two reasons: Cathy and Kathy might sound too outdated as legal names and NNs, and secondly, despite Kate and Katie being more popular, they sound fresher. Princess Kate doesn't hurt the name's image, although I doubt that she has much to do with it. People always liked the name because pf its simple femininity. I honestly prefer Kit and Kitty. The only difference is, Kitty does not work as a legal name, but my wishful thinking tells me that Kit still could.
Surely it depends on whether the bearer's name is Catherine or Katharine? In which case, I'd prefer Kathy, unless I'd just reread Wuthering Heights.
Kitty or Kat I can see becoming more popular than Kathy, or just the full name, Catherine isn't that long (in terms of syllables anyways) and relatively easy to pronounce. I guess I prefer Kathy?

I think Kates and Katies will be around for a while yet. Kit, Kitty or even Kaye may emerge as nicknames for Katherine, Catherine, etc. Cathy and Kathy are dated and boring. I don't prefer one spelling over the other.
I don’t think it’s coming back anytime soon. Cathy is slightly better.
