Athinais
At work on Friday a girl called Athinais. WDYT?Don’t take criticism from someone you wouldn’t take advice from

I like it but prefer Athenais.
At first I thought it was some creative spelling, but it's actually the modern Greek form of Athenais (which I submitted, lol).I prefer Athénaïs since the diacritics balance the name. Athinais looks quite disorganized. It's interesting, nonetheless.
Agree with you on the diacritics. It's a gorgeous name.
It's usually spelled Athénaïs with two accents. It's the French version of Athena. A mistress of King Louis XIV had this name. I think it's hauntingly beautiful.
I had a student by this name, it’s very charming.
Athénaïs is not the French version of Athena. The French forms of Athena are Athéna and Athéné. Athinais is a transliteration of the Greek name Αθηναΐς. The name is derived from Athena but is not Athena. Athénaïs is the French form of Αθηναΐς.
The family were Greek so I wonder if that accounts for the difference in spelling.
Yes, Athinais is the modern Greek form.
Of what? Not of Athena. The modern form of Athena is Αθηνά, often transliterated as Athina.
I prefer the Greek pronunciation with 4 syllables.
Ooh, that's not a name you see every day! I like it; how did she pronounce it?
She pronounced it athiNAYIS with three syllables
I'm a little confused by how that's three syllables.
Trying to work out the syllables ath i nay is, would that be 4, too frilly
Ath-Nay-Is is probably closer. My first attempt wasn’t very clear. Apologies.
Ooh, that's actually kinda pretty. Thank you!
