Pretty but prefer the butchered spelling for most Irish, Welsh and Gaelic names.
It's great and bound to make a bigger appearance in the US along with Saoirse
Siobhan is a great name... as long as you're in Ireland, or live around people who know Irish pronunciation. Otherwise, you'll genuinely get called "see-oh-ban" by people who don't know better. (Also, I remember calling a Siobhan "sha-vaun" once and she got mad at me, because it was "see-oh-ban" and - I'll never forget this - "Well, I'm not Irish!" Customer service is so much fun...)
I've met two, one American (who had it as her middle name) and one Irish lady named Siobhan. I think that it sounds very pretty and elegant.
It's OK, but no more. I've only met one, and she was known as Shiv, which I don't much like.
I love Siobhán. I love the soft sound of the name. I find even the crazy Irish spelling is part of its charm. I think it's a beauty.
I like the shə-VAN pronunciation best. It's not one of my favorite Irish names in general, though.
