Denmark once owned the US Virgin Islands before selling them to the United States (we needed money back then), and there are a ton of Danish place names left there, including the name of the capital, Charlotte Amalie, who were a Danish queen reigning from 1670-1699.
We called it "The Danish West-Indies" because this was at a time when Christopher Columbus had sailed out (going west around the globe) from Portugal to find India, but instead, yes, found America instead, and the US Virgin Islands are just East of Puerto Rico.

The parents of actor siblings John and Joan Cusack?
I guess they didn't know they named their kids the very same name.
Then again, how did they not even know, or was told, this fact?
