Re: Thoughts on these names?
in reply to a message by KK
1. Scarlett - a one-owner name; I prefer Katie
2. Maddalena - who wants a madder Lena?
3. Helen - elegant, classic, quiet, restrained: a winner!
4. Emma - tedious
5. Charlotte - much prefer Charline or Charlene
6. Elena - pronunciation issues. Stay with Helen or Eleanor
7. Megan - used to be pleasant and interesting; now it's just over-used
8. Kylie - yuck
9. Leah - better than Lee, but still not good
10. Isabelle - too frilly; I prefer Isabel or, especially, Isobel
11. Ava - once, a busty actress; now, faded and dull
12. Evelyn - shortens pleasantly to Eve; I also like Lyneve
13. Madeline - my preferred spelling and a family name, but I wouldn't use it except perhaps as a mn
14. Gabrielle - unsuccessful feminisation; prefer Gabriel for a boy
15. Lily - pale, drooping, sentimental - no, thanks
16. Elana - like 6, like 16
17. Fiona - beautiful and lots of fun; a winner
18. Chiara - fine in Italian; I'd use Clare
19. Layal - any name starting with Lay- is to be avoided
20. Emily - still gorgeous and wonderful in spite of its popularity
21. Tara - too geographical; TAHra is better than TARRa, but still not good
22. Madeleine - I prefer Madeline to Mad Elaine
23. Lucy - cheerful and pretty; a winner
24. Helena - prefer Helen
25. Eleanora - clunky rhythm; prefer Eleanor
26. Margaret - very lovely; pity about the nicknames. Middle name only
27. Hannah - unattractive; Anne or even Anna would be much better
28. Alison - beautiful, and the best spelling
29. Melanie - lacks oomph and personality
30. Olivia - very pretty, better than Olive, but becomes Ollie which is awful. Mn onlyOnly a top 5: alphabetical order
Alison, Emily, Fiona, Helen, Lucy
