I'm not either. I've always thought it was ridiculous. I also dislike apocrypchal saints - Cecilia, Christopher, Veronica. There are so many amazing historical saints - Francis, Catherine, Juliana, Thomas, Hildegard. I also dislike the woman desiring to remain a virgin and being violently killed because of it. That said, I understand and respect my niece's choice.
I'm not one to care about saints or their stories, but my Italian relations were big on Saint Lucy since she was the saint of eyes and several had eye issues over the years. I remember that creepy statue with her eyes on a little dish being in my grandmother's room growing up.If it makes your niece happy then that's all that matters.
