Always has been a name I liked, but at first I preferred the spelling Scarlet because Scarlett seemed extra. Now it's the other way around - Scarlet seems incomplete; but I like both spellings.
I have the same imagery as you - crimson, velvet, elegance...
Lettie ruins the name, though - it's cutesy and out of place. Scar or Carly sound better.
