Mattie as a nickname for Matilda (rather than Maddy for Madeleine) was pretty common then, so maybe Matt? I've also come across Paddy and Patty/Pat for... Martha, I believe it is?? Very strange, but would be period appropriate.Sal for Sarah (via Sally).
