Re: Kalliope OR Kelly
in reply to a message by )(
Kalliope, because it's very underrated! Penelope is becoming more popular, and a bit of the popularity has been spread to Calliope. Kalliope is just a very interesting name, which isn't to say that Kelly isn't also a good name.

Holy cow - I had no idea that Calliope was jumping that high in popularity. It makes sense, though.I'm going to keep this information under my hat, as my friend was very particular about choosing a unique name for her child.
I would guess its growing popularity because of the similar Penelope. I know someone who wanted to name their daughter Penelope, but was hesitant because a Kardashian sister used the same name just before her, but went with it anyway. I can definitely understand wanting a unique name, though!
This is one of the reasons I picked a name that consistently charted for the past 100 years, and mostly in the same place. My sister's name was super popular when she was born, dating her to the 1980s. My name was unheard of, but is now gaining popularity. (Haven & Jessica) I didn't want either of those things to happen to my daughter - I wanted her name to be common but not popular. That said I did want to name her Nora, one of the most popular names the year she was born. I'm glad my husband made me stick to our original choice - Miriam.
