For example, Cheryl is elaboration of chérie, influenced by Beryl, And chérie is meaning "darling". And Darlene is a combination of "darling" and lene.

I think it's just a coincidence; and you've only cited two examples, that's hardly a trend.
Leen names were generally popular around the same time: Arlene, Charlene, Marlene, Darlene.
Cheryl was popular at the same time as Carol, Sharon, Shirley, Sherry, and for boys, Harold, Darrell and Gerald.
Not as many people knew or cared about the origin and meaning of names back then, and there was not as easy access to such information if they did want to know.
