Re: What names on the charts right now is the worst?
Yup, there sure are. Taking from just the top 100 among the U.S current chart, here are the names that I rather don't care for. I'll start with the boy names, then the girls later on in a separate response. #27 Hudson As a native New Yorker, the explorer Henry Hudson immediately comes to mind. Hud/Huddy aren't attractive nicknames #37 & #95: Grayson & GreysonJust sounds unbelievably wimpy and whiny. Greyson is the better spelling of the two though, but it appears to be on its way out. #40: MaverickI get the Top Gun references, but while growing up, this was the name of our family practice facility and we always just referred to it as "The Maverick/Maverick" So anytime I hear/see this name, I'm picturing some type of doctor, besides the movies. #46: JaydenI shouldn't have to explain this one. I'm just very glad that these types of names seem to be on their way out, for the most part anyway. #48: SantiagoI don't get the appeal of this one at all. It just doesn't sound like a name to me and that's the best way I can describe it. I much prefer Tiago. #53 CooperπŸ•πŸš—πŸ”πŸ’© (Dog's name, mini Cooper, chicken coop & what the name rhymes with) This name is best left for the dogs or as a surname#54 Lincoln Just overrated#62 AngelIt's incredibly tacky and cheesy. Better for a boy, sure, but the Spanish pronunciation isn't any better. #66 WaylonSounds dangerous. 😳 Wailing on is a term I immediately think of, along with the act of someone crying. I also just hate the way the name looks. Waylen is better, but not by much. #68 RomanThis is one that seems to get fiercely defended everywhere you go and I just can't for the life of understand the appeal and fascination over it. It sounds like the word, roaming (as in roaming around) and brings to mind *coughs awkwardly* a certain birth control, let's just leave it at that. I much prefer Ronan. #76 Brooks
Best left as a surname. Also the whole plural noun/verbs as names is just weird, to say the least. At least it isn't as bad as Banks. #77 AxelMight be fine in lots of countries, but in English-speaking ones, you may as well be saying a swear word. It also makes me think of car axles, an ax and axe body spray. #78 WalkerSelf-explanatory. Just incredibly silly. I mean what's his sibling names, Runner and skipper? This is another name best left as a surname. #80 Easton Just why?#82 Weston Better than Easton and certainly better than Waylon, but it isn't terrific by any means.πŸŒ·β‡οΈπŸŒ·β‡οΈπŸŒ·β‡οΈπŸŒ·β‡οΈπŸŒ·β‡οΈπŸŒ·β‡οΈπŸŒ·β‡οΈπŸŒ·β‡οΈπŸŒ·β‡οΈπŸŒ·β‡οΈπŸŒ·β‡οΈπŸŒ·

And for the girls...#11: HarperI absolutely can't stand this one and I can only hope that it disappears as quickly as it arrived. I could honestly write a whole essay on how much I hate this name, but I'm not going to. I'm just glad that it just isn't in the top 10 anymore. #27 HazelMakes me think of the eye color and of witch hazel.#32 NovaMakes me think of novocaine and of PBS. No thanks. If someone is really into space-themed names, then sure, I get that. I still don't care for it. #34 Madison Thrilled to see this one losing traction, much like Harper. The name has always sounded incredibly annoying and bratty to me. #53 PaisleyUgly like the pattern. Hate it. #61 Kinsley Cutesy and will age poorly, similar to most of the names on this list. Also likely to get mixed up with the boy's name Kingsley on a constant basis. #65 GenesisTall order naming a kid this. #92 Brooklyn Better than naming a kid Bronx, Manhattan, or like Staten Island, but still incredibly tacky. Brook/Brooke is better.#74 KennedyThese surnames turned "girl" names are just bizarre. Names like Kennedy and Mackenzie are prime examples of that. I don't understand the appeal of naming a kid this, especially for a girl. #81 AubreyAudrey is just better. Sounds nicer too. #96 SerenityTacky and cheap#100 RaelynnSounds like railing.
I thought I was the only person who first thought of Novocaine when hearing the word nova. Paisley I also think is so ugly, and I have known both adult Paisleys and Kinsleys and agree it doesn’t age well. I actually thought Kinsley was a nickname and was wondering why she was asking me to call her such a cutesy nickname when I had only just met her.
