Thoughts on these old-fashioned names?

Replies

I like Charlene, Fredrick, and Viola. I didn't know that Twyla was a vintage name, that's interesting.
Yeah! I have a renewed interest in Twyla because of the Monster High character, which I hope boosts the name's popularity!
Charlene is one of my favorite girl names; I think that it's so pretty!Flora holds the same opinion that Charlene does for me.I much prefer the spelling of Frederick to Fredrick; I think Frederick is very handsome.I don't like the names Hubert, Ida, Twyla, Viola, or Wilbur.
Ready to comeback: Charlene, Flora, Fredrick, Viola
Leave: Hubert, Ida, Twyla, Wilbur
Most of the names on this list are feels like the 19th or early 20th century. But Charlene has a mid-20th century feel.
Charlene: This is my MIL's name, and I've always liked it; I like it much better than I like Charlotte. It's warmer and softer somehow, but also more down-to-earth.
Flora: It's kind of pretty.
Fredrick: This is my old teddy bear's name. Fred is kind of a friendly, gruff, favorite-uncle sort of name. (I don't have any uncle named Fred.)
Hubert: It's too comical for a real person.
Ida: Frumpy.
Twyla: Cheap, loud, redneck woman with not enough teeth and a dated frizzy pile of badly-dyed hair.
Viola: Ida's frumpy sister.
Wilbur: A pig's name.
Yeah, I’ve liked Charlene since I was really young and was surprised when I found out it was so unused today!I don’t have an uncle named Fred either, but that analysis makes sense to me, haha.

Charlene - I prefer it over Charlotte, it’s more soft spoken?
Flora - not old fashioned imo. Not in the UK anyway as it’s fairly common. Nice name as it reminds of the goddess of flowers.
Fredrick - I dislike this spelling. It find it difficult to picture this on a (non royal) person.
Hubert- My cousin’s (and his son’s) middle name. I like it because of him.
Ida - I love Monument Valley and the main character is named Ida, before that I’d associate it with a great grandmother.
Twyla - Frilly, but there’s something about it that’s alluring. Free spirited and celestial.
Viola - I had a Croatian colleague name Viola (vee-o-la), I prefer that over the English prn as I dislike vye part. vee-o-la lovely and musical, vye-o-la sounds like the school bully.
Wilbur - Maybe as a pet name, as jokey kind of name, but I really can’t picture it on a person.
Yes, I prefer Charlene over Charlotte too! Finally someone who agrees! :DOh, right, I forget the UK list is very different! Flora is much less common in the US.I always pictured Viola being pronounced with a vee because of the instrument.
I love Ida, Viola and Wilbur. The other ones are okay, except for Charlene maybe. Personally I'd prefer her not to make a comeback ;-)
I love Ida.Wilbur, Viola and Frederick are nice too.
I'd totally write off and ignore Hubert, Twyla and Wilbur. I would never use or consider Ida or Viola. The rest are fine, except I hope that Fredrick is a typo for Frederick.
It wasn’t a typo, I just wasn’t sure what spelling to use, haha. There’s like 4 or 5 different spellings.
I like flora, ida and viola. twyla's fine, though it's a bit too modern-looking.

I like that it’s modern-looking, to be honest. It’s such an old name that has like no usage today, yet it feels modern.
I like Hubert, Ida, and Twyla.

So classic, but Wilbur just reminds me of Charlotte's Web too much.
It's a good book, though!
It totally is.
