Have I lost it?

Lately I love the name uh-DREE-nah. I can't decide whether I like it spelled Adrina or Audrina, but I'm leaning towards Adrina. It sprung out of a typo for Adriana, actually, when I forgot an A, so it's completely and totally made up.

Have I lost it and gone insane? I would never use it, but I think it's really pretty. Opinions? Bashings?

I sort of like it. I also like Aundrea so I like the spelling of Audrina so much better. Aundrea is said like on-dray-uh. And I usually hate Andrea and names like those but I love this one.

It makes me think of the word "adrenal" (uh-DREE-nuhl), like adrenal glands. But then again, I'm a nurse. :-/

lol, I think it's pretty too. I prefer the spelling Adrina. If it makes you feel any better, I've heard it used before...spelled Adrina. There's also a singer named Adrina Thorpe, though I'm familiar with her work.

I am so pleased to tell you that you didn't make it up! It is actually an Italian name meaning "happiness". I prefer Adrina because to me Audrina is like Audrey with a "na" .

Thanks, but babynames.com is an extremely unreliable website for name meanings. Thanks a lot for trying, though! Since Allegra is an Italian name meaning (basically) happiness, I find it doubtful that Adrina does as well.

I see what you mean about Adrina. I'm starting to love that spelling.

No, I don't think you've lost it.

As for the spelling, I'd recommend spelling "uh-DREE-nuh" Adrina, using Audrina only if you want the "uh" to be "aw" as in Audrey (since Audrina looks like a variant of Audrey). I think Audrina is prettier, but both are quite nice.

I only notice a slight difference between 'aw' and 'uh', but I do think that Adrina looks prettier and less like a kreatyv version of Audrey.

No. I do that kind of thing all the time....

Well... perhaps I have "lost it," whatever "it" is ... but I mess around with variants on names a lot.

Personally I find Edrina very appealing. The Adrin- and Adren- remind me of adrenaline, and Audrina looks like aah-drina or aw-drina to me, instead of uh-drina like you say you're pronouncing it.

To my ears, ah-, uh-, and aw- sound pretty much exactly the same, like the A in all. Not quite so much uh-, but ah- and aw-.

I would totally support it...

...But unfortunately, VC Andrews got to the name Audrina before I did.

Andrews (before she died, so it's the real one and not the ghostwriter), better known as the author of Flowers in the Attic, wrote a novel called My Sweet Audrina. (I'm going to spoil it for you, because while I rather enjoy the novels Andrews wrote before she died, they're certainly not high literature. The details of all this might be a bit off, as I only read the novel once, years ago.) The title character is Audrina Adare, who was named after her elder sister, who died before she was born. She wants dearly to be as good as her dear, sweet, dead elder sister, and she spends her days wandering hazily in her family's house.

And then she finds out that there wasn't an Audrina before her--she's the same one, and on her ninth birthday, she was gang-raped by some boys in their early teens. Her family managed to make her repress the knowledge and made up a bunch of bull about her elder sister. With this knowledge, Audrina starts going to school, has a bunch of angst, ends up marrying one of the guys who was there when she was raped (though he didn't take part), and she tries to learn to be an independent woman (and is an angsty failure, for the most part). There's a bunch of subplots about her elder step-sisters, her younger half-sister, Sylvia (who's apparently retarded because their father beat Sylvia's mother while she was pregnant), and some other stuff, but most of it's hazy in my mind.

So I have to say that while I'd normally support a name like Audrina, I can't support Audrina itself.

Evangline Margaret is really, really gorgeous. I also love Rose.

I don't like any of the boy combos at all, but mixing and matching gives me Zachariah John or John Zachariah, which I like a lot.

In Spanish and Italian, and the way I say it, it's ah-dree-AH-nah, not ay-dree-AH-nah or ay-dree-ANN-ah.

I quite like it. I seem to remember a series of children's books about a ballet student called Adrina. I loved them when I was about nine and convinced I was, natually, going to be the next Anna Pavlova. I might be mis-remembering the name though.

I like the "u"'s wich hardly no one does any more. I just think it completes the sound of "uh" in Audrina.
