Re: Jesse for a boy?

Jesse on a boy is more of a full name. Any of those spellings could be short for Jessica on a girl but mostly Jessie.
Jesus "Jesse" makes sense but I don't think I've ever seen it. I think all the boys I've met named Jesse just had Jesse as a full name.
ETA: I'm disappointed that the English version of this name is pronounced the way it is, the more "Yesseh" kind of pronunciations feel more interesting and less modern.
Can anyone explain the difference between /ˈjɛ.sə/ and /ˈjes.se/? Is it a "catch", like what a small tsu means in Japanese? (Also, the BtN guide describes both e and ɛ as the vowel in "bet and care" but I can't even think of an accent where those words rhyme with each other.)
