Molly+
I just discovered that Molly was used by Jews for Miriam. I've always liked Molly, it's a sweet name. Thoughts on it? Other nicknames for Miriam that I like:
Mim- I didn't hear about this nickname until well after my daughter was born. Had I come across it I think I would have used it.
Mimi - My mom uses Mimi instead of grandma. I suspect we'd call our daughter Mimi if she didn't.
Miri - This is how I fell in love with the name Miriam in the first place. I met a woman called Miriam with the nn Miri. I loved it, but I have a niece named Mira. It would have been too much, in fact Miriam and Mira are confusing enough. My daughter doesn't have any nicknames outside us, and we call her Miss Mae. Her second middle name is Mae and she's a force to be reckoned with. While I was pregnant I referred to her as Merry Mae, and my mom even called her that. After she was born it did not fit her at ALL. Of all the Miriam nickames Mim would suit her the best, it's simple, no-nonsense, and has a playful feel to it.

I LOVE the name Molly, always have. It’s so friendly and approachable and happy. A Molly just has to be sweet and kind, it fits the name. I have a niece named Miriam who gets called Mim most of the time, but Mimi sometimes too.

I guess it makes sense, but it's not intuitive for me.
I feel like Molly is energetic in a pleasant enough (jolly?) ordinary way, though if I dwell in it, the sound/look seems kind of ugly, but I don't know why.I'd just use Miri or nothing, although Mim seems cute. I like both Miri and Miriam a lot.

I like Molly. I have a close aunt with this name (not short for anything) so I have a significant bias attachment to it as well. She has always been there throughout my entire life and we get along tremendously well (twin sister of my mother after all) so I VERY much associate the name with her. I've known a few other Molly's here and there, but none for nearly as long. 😂 But, I've never known anyone else with this name who I've ever disliked, so I guess you can say I have some rather positive experiences and associations attached to the name. 😊
I feel neutral towards Miriam and prefer Miri best as a nn. Love Mira.

I really like Molly, but I hate the drug association.

I love Molly and Miriam both. They are such strong names while also being adorable (in Molly's case) and beautiful. Miriam is so lyrical and has such beautiful colours in it, and I love all the nicknames. I have to say I'm so confused by grandmas that want to go by Mimi. I don't get the Mimi-grandma connection. Is it derived from "meemaw"? Also who uses Meemaw? These terms of familial endearment fascinate and bewilder me.Did you find out Miriam's gender and choose her name while still pregnant? I can't remember at all!

One of my aunt's grandkids call her Mimi. They live on the border of Virginia and Tennessee. A wife of one of my cousins called one of her grandmas Gogi and the other Meemaw. There's like a dozen ways of saying grandma in my family. A couple are really silly like Tootsie or Bunny and a few of them are babytalk; all of my grandfather's grandkids called him Dadad just because that's what the oldest called him as a baby. Mimi at least seems like Nana or Yaya or Mama/Mommy. One of my dad's grandmothers would not even answer to Grandma, though; she was always Grandmother or her name.

Yes, people use Meemaw. My sister-in-law is from the South, her family uses Papa & Mimi for grandparents. My parents adopted it, and having different names for each set of grandparents is useful.Yes, we did find out Miriam's gender and chose her name. I remember being surprised at my husband agreeing to Miriam, he'd was always iffy on it. We had always planned on using Margaret for our daughter, but so many people on BtN had used the name. It seemed weird to me to use it. Six months in the pregnancy I fell in love with Norah, though, and spent the rest of the pregnancy trying to talk Xander into using it. Didn't work. At that time the names on our list were Margaret, Miriam, Judith, and Katarina. Out of those Miriam suits her the best.

Molly is cute, but I have developed a fondness for Mollie. It's strange how a slightly different spelling can freshen up a name.

I get it. That's why I insist on spellig my cat's name Elly instead of Ellie. It just looks better. The opposite is true with Molly/MOllie - Mollie does look better.

Miriam is a great name! Mae, Mim, or Mitzie are good options as nicknames. I'd avoid Molly, which is slang for the drug MDMA, also known as ecstasy. It's a shame but it would be kind of like using Mary Jane, Marijuana.

Mitzi was my aunt's dog for years. It's too bad, because it's adorable.
