Re: Names from a Swiss cemetery
in reply to a message by ari.
I've been liking Verena lately - I prefer it to Vera and Irena. Vreni is a cute NN for it (I feel like I have heard/seen it before but no idea where).
Maybe unrelated, but Cilly reminds me of Civilla which I saw recently in US cemetery records (if I'm remembering correctly, it would have been from the late 1700s; names like Sybilla, Priscilla, Zibella, Aquilla were also being used at around the same time, plus Verena). Cilly sounds silly in English but was probably fine for Switzerland...any possibility it could have been a hard C?
Regula, Sekunda, and Hildegard are fun to see.
Adelheid's OK. I'd rather be Adelaide, but Heidi is a nice NN name.
Modesto's OK. I like Desta and Mo, plus I like Modesta as a GP.
Luzi, Lisetta, and Ettie I'm indifferent about.
