Janet is actually one of my most favorite girl names! I’ve always had a drawing to it, because it looks and sounds beautiful. I think it could totally be used still; it has centuries of history in the English language. I don’t get why it’s not very common anymore; it reminds me of a warm, winter mitten, on a freezing day.

I think it's still dated, although there's something appealingly funky or retro about it, and it can sound sweet as a young person's name sort of like Robin and Linda can. I like it best as an unofficial nn for Jane, which I think (for me, personally) is related to having watched Outlander, which is set in the 1700s - the protagonist's sister is called Jenny and Janet interchangeably, and I think her actual name is Jane, so that got me thinking of it as a bit more classic than I had been previously.

My mom's name was Janet. I remember her saying she hated it growing up but I secretly love it as it's a Scottish form of Jane.

I’m not a fan. I have known two people named Janet, my grandmother and my aunt. My grandmother was born in the 1920s and known as Netta and my aunt in the 1950s and known as Jan.

I don't really like it, and still dated

I think it's fresher than Jane, even though Jane is fairly popular now. But I find it only a bit less bland than Jane.

I never thought I'd see the day, but I think it might be on the verge of being fresh. I think this name could come around again. Especially if people start realizing its cute olde-timey nickname potential, because that sort of thing seems to be popular; stuff like Nora and Nell and Tess and Bess and Ned. Janet is really quite adorable and tidy in a thatched roof cottage sort of way, if you tilt your head a bit, and squint.

I think 70s era names might be coming back as well and Janet sure has that in spades. I know young people giving their kids Beach Blanket Bingo names like Curtis and Elaine, like unironically, so I could definitely see a little Janet fitting in perfectly with a class full of Violets, Henrys, Theodores and Hazels. To me, it's a Mom Name, not very cool, but the youngsters think mom jeans and fanny packs are cool again so I have no idea what's happening anymore.
