Speaking as someone of Filipino descent, it would be unlikely that a man named Bayani would get "Bay" as a nickname. At least among Filipinos anyway. He'd most likely get Ani, Bani or Yani as nicknames.

He could possibly get something like "Baba" or "Nini" as reduplications of any syllables (but usually the first syllable) is common for Filipino nicknames. "Yaya" would definitely not be used because "Yaya" means "nanny" and "governess" in Tagalog.
