I imagine it's because it shares a similarity in sound to Dakota, which was also trendy once (perhaps still is? 🤷‍♀️) That and the fact that it fits right in with the whole 4 letter, 2 syllable naming trend. The long O sound also helps it, I think. I like it, but wouldn't use it, and I can see how it sounds like a dog's name. 🙂
