I have never met anyone named Barbie, even as a nn for Barbara. I don't expect to meet one either.
The only real-life Barbie I ever heard of was Barbi Benton, a very glamorous country singer and Playboy model waaay back.
Australian people call the barbecue grill the barbie, so it's probably doubly silly to them.
