Elaine
What are your thoughts on the name Elaine for a girl? Honestly, I really love it; Elaine is a very classy, uncommon name. With the popularity of “E” names and old-fashioned names, I’m surprised Elaine hasn’t made the cut. My only grievance is when people pronounce it “EE-layn” instead of “Eh-layn”. I normally don’t care for “misspellings,” but with Elaine, I also like the spellings Elayn and Alaine. Despite that, I’d most likely choose (the more visibly pleasing) Elaine, respectively.

I say eeLAYN, perhaps closer to iLAYN. So does my cousin's Elaine friend, but my aunt always says EElayn.
I associate it with my SIL, who is elegant, beautiful and lots of fun, and with my cousin's friend, who is plump and forgettable. Elayn looks like a spelling error, or a bad suggestion by a spellchecker; Alaine should, surely, be the fem form of Alain? So the A- sound would be different from the E-.
I'd never use it IRL; I much prefer Helen, which I'd use at a moment's notice.

I think Elaine is attractive, especially as a mn.
My mother's name is Lorraine and when she was in school her best friend was Elaine. My grandfather liked to call them Ee-Layn and Lo-Rayn, with exaggerated pronunciation.
I do like Elena better.
