An acquaintance's middle name is Nanette. It suddenly seemed like a usable name, at least in the middle. But Nannie? No. That would be like naming a child Nursey or Maidie.

As serial killers go, the ultimate in misnamed evildoers will always go to Angelo Buono. But Nannie (I believe her given name was actually Nancy) is pretty inapt, considering that one of her victims was a grandchild.

It's a terrible name for anyone but a loving grandmother whose grandkids are the only ones who call her that.

I love it as a nickname for Susanna.

Though it isn't meant that way, it does come across as an occupation name.
