I prefer Barbara, I love the nns Babs and Babette, so chic.

I prefer Barbara because it has historical pedigree, but Shirley is very charming.

Barbara seems more human. Shirley seems appropriate for a very fluffy cat. The problem with both of them is nns. Ba, Barb, Barbie, Babs ... not appealing at all. And Shirl ... I just don't enjoy that -er- sound: think Merle, Bertha, Percy, Bertram.

If I had to choose Barbara but I don’t like either.

I prefer Shirley, since I have a personal, family associate. It also sounds so pretty, classy, and understated. Nowadays, I think Shirley would be an awesome, unexpected choice for a girl. I’d personally use it, if it weren’t for that family associate.

Shirley. It is sweeter than Barbara, has a nicer meaning, and it reminds me of “Anne of Green Gables”. Barbara Shirley as a combo wouldn’t be that bad. Shirley Barbara as well. Generally both of them are fine. At least waaay better than most names nowadays like Jada or Everly (in my opinion).
I like Shirley more, anyways. 💛 Reminds me of meadows and picnics.

Neither, maybe Barbara at a pinch

Definitely Shirley, it’s much sweeter than Barbara. Although I have a soft spot for Barbie.
