I don't like for an actual person. For a character? Not bad. I did read a book where a character was named (or called?) Elder.

I’m sorry, but I can’t say that I’m a fan.

It looks like 'elder' as in 'older' for me.

This. It also reminds me of Harry Potter and the Elder Wand.

Don't like at all

I'd like it if the word "elder" meaning "older" didn't exist. Then I'd assume it was after elderflowers / elderberries.
But since the "older" meaning exists and that would be weird for a name, I would use Alder instead. Alder has a similar sound, it's still a plant, and it doesn't sound like you're pretending your baby is an old person or a Mormon missionary. (I didn't know about Hélder until clicking the link to Elder in this post, so that's why I only thought of the plant association and the word "elder").

Helder in Afrikaans means 'bright', as in 'a bright light', not an intelligent person. Never seen it used as a name, but nothing would surprise me.

That's a lot nicer than "hell's door" lol!

I agree. It’s a nice sound.
