I like Timothy, nn Tim, but not enough to use. It seems a bit flimsy somehow. We had a huge, friendly, beautiful Toby cat, who was named at the rescue centre we got him from. A delightful, lovable animal, who went into a neighbour's garden unaware that she was looking after her son's two dogs, one of which had a raging phobia about cats and killed Toby with one bite to the throat. So, mixed feelings there.

Don't care for either one. I think they make someone sound perpetually 5 years old.

I’m pretty neutral to Timothy. I actually kind of like Toby, but I think it’s better as a nickname for Tobias or for a dog.

I prefer the name Timothy to Toby; Timothy sounds very formal but fun. Tim is also a cool nickname.

I like Timothy, mainly for the nn Tim. Toby sounds like a big clumsy, slobbering dog.
I wouldn't use Timothy on a real son, because he'd be sure to be called Timmy by someone as a young child and I think Timmy is the most annoying little-boy nn around.

I like Timothy, for me it's such an untimely classic name. Not so much for Toby though, I don't like it.
